The days after Thanksgiving are usually very quiet, and today we have just a single movie of note to mention. Meet Me in St. Louis, Vincente Minnelli’s lush ode to a younger, simpler America, arrived just in time to help everyone take their minds off of World War II. Judy Garland achieved one of her biggest successes at MGM with the film, as well as fostering a marriage to her director that ended six years later in divorce. (It did produce her daughter Liza, however.) Meet Me in St. Louis opened today in 1944.
