Today in Movie History: August 31

It’s a very quiet day today, which makes it a good day for a little gem: Nicholas Meyer’s Time After Time, which posits the notion that H.G. Wells (Malcolm McDowell) built a time machine, which he uses to pursue Jack the Ripper (David Warner) to San Francisco in the 1970’s. It’s a hoot, especially with two old pros like theseĀ in the lead, and as a way to close out August, you could do a lot worse. It opened today in 1979.

And for the record, we’re pretending the new TV show just doesn’t exist.
